Downs Syndrome
(otherwise know as Down Syndrome or Trisomy 21)
is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of
an extra 21st chromosome (either all or in part),
and is named after the British Doctor John Langdon
Down, who described the syndrome in 1866. It is
associated with some impairment of cognitive ability
and physical growth, as well as facial appearance.
People with Downs Syndrome may have a reduced
cognitive ability, ranging from mild to moderate
learning disabilities.
